The Spindle of Life(1917)
When Mrs. Harrison arrives in Harborsport for her vacation, she announces her plan to marry Gladsome, her daughter, to Vincent Bradshaw, the son of her financial advisor James Bradshaw. To keep Gladsome from socializing with the local fishermen, James drives them from his property, but they organize under her and force their way back. Arrested for rabble-rousing, Gladsome is bailed out of jail by James and later meets "Alphabet" Carter, a vacationing financial wizard, for whom she has an immediate attraction.

Richard returns to find that his fiancée has become a "victim of jazz" and is engaged to two other men, one of whom is not yet divorced. This is not terribly impressive to Bennett -- who owns a trolley company -- and he decides he would rather see Ruth married to his controller, William Mott-Smith.

Meanwhile, a Salvation Army lass is attempting to rescue a young girl who has fallen into the hands of an unscrupulous scoundrel. Jimmy becomes involved in the chaos, battling the scoundrel and the café proprietor's men to protect the girl. In a climactic twist, the girl turns out to be the estranged sister of the villainous proprietor. The film ends with a happy reunion, the villainous proprietor turning good, and Jimmy thanked for his heroism.

The father is a thief and a drunkard so that the mother is forced to be the bread-winner. Satan and the prostitute find themselves in the whirl of easy life.
