Features the sickest places to ride on the East Coast. This video was produced to expose the world to the experience of East Coast mountain biking. The local boys and the bad ass pros have gone all out to expose you to everything, from the racing hot spots to the sickest places to thrash. Emmy Award winner Don Hampton brings you all the broken bikes, bones, and blood for this totally hardcore experience. Riders include Aaron Chase, Kyle Ebbett, Lars Tribus and the usual cast of top pros. Shot on location at Ski Plattekill, NY, as well as street scenes in NYC, Seven Springs, Mount Snow, first ever NCAA DH nationals hosted by Penn State University. Long before the mountain bike entered our global consciousness, the cycling enthusiasts of Northern California's Marin County rode modified pre-WWII bicycles down the slopes of Mount Tamalpais. They developed their bikes through rigorous field-testing, often risking life and limb to do so. Some of these cyclists were Category-1 road racers looking for a new way to train during the off-season. Others were simply fun-loving hippies looking for a new way to commune with nature. Their early bikes were scavenged from dumpsters and junkyards. It was from these humble beginnings that a multi-billion dollar industry, a form of recreation for the masses, and an Olympic event, were born. These hefty steeds were affectionately known as Klunkerz.

Pierluca Rossi's Lungo La Pista Dei Contrabbandieri (1990) is an adventure documentary about a mountain bike crossing of the 700 km between the towns of Tamarasset and Djanet in the southern Algerian Sahara, from the Hoggar mountain range to the Tassili n'Ajjer. This crossing, supported by a 4x4 truck and a motorcycle, and never before undertaken by bicycle, emphasizes the rediscovered dimension of slowness, similar to the caravans of the Tuareg, in contrast to the unnatural speed of mechanized desert travel in the 1990s, which was considered the norm at the time due to the distorted image provided by the Paris-Dakar Rally and other similar events.

There were riders — courageous, driven and a little crazy — who were at once exploring new terrain, testing their own limitations and defining a new genre of the sport, and their riding style was not represented at all in competition. Freeride mountain biking was rapidly evolving with every insane drop and first descent, and Red Bull Rampage was on board to help push it even harder.
