Ruído das Minas was produced by journalists Filipe Sartoreto, Gracielle Fonseca, and Rafael Sette Câmara as a graduation project in Social Communication at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). The film gained visibility after being screened at the first IN-EDIT Brazil International Music Documentary Festival in June and July 2009, in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. This exposure led to an invitation from MTV Brasil, and the documentary was later broadcast as part of the channel’s Doc.MTV programming block, dedicated to music documentaries. Heavy guitars, long hair, crosses, and demons: heavy metal from Minas Gerais became one of Brazil’s most influential scenes. Belo Horizonte gave rise to bands such as Overdose, Sarcófago, and one of the biggest metal acts in the world, Sepultura. Ruído das Minas tells this story through the voices of those who lived the early days of heavy metal in the state capital firsthand.

"Golden Voices Competition" is to be held this year at Terrell Christian College (TCC), but there's one problem TCC does not have a choir. Georgia Mae Jackson (Irma P. Hall) who is the head of the music department has been challenged by the Assistant Dean Vickie Wilson (Tonea Stewart), to put a choir together in one month or lose her job. Georgia's back goes out so she tricks her granddaughter, Sidney Nicole Taylor (Nikki Dixon) into taking over the choir for her. Sidney turns the college upside down when she hires a fallen, bad boy, R&B singer, Jax Rebel (Mario Mims), to help her with the choir. Dean Wilson finds out about Jax's sorted past and threatens to fire Georgia if they don't win the competition. Will, Sidney and Jax be able to save Georgia's job?

But the butcher's father is an imam who sets up a little mosque in the back room and uses it to spread his fundamentalist views. When he is arrested by the RCMP on suspicions of past terrorist activities, his son, torn between love for his wife and allegiance to his father, gets involved in a plot to free him. Fed up by her husband's unwillingness to stand up to his father's wishes, the butcher's wife leaves to live a more fulfilling life away from the muslim community.

Yzza’s bag is stolen and in her misfortune Yzza meets a young woman, a prostitute wanted by the police. From adventure to adventure, Yzza discovers the workings of an absurd society where her sensible codes are pushed and shoved. Director Naoufel Berraoui skillfully knits the portrayal of a city swarming with cars and people with the dramatic lives of his characters. A remarkable cast directed with sensitivity in a poignant drama with documentary-like accents.
